2004 USARA Nationals Race Recap by Julie Nor

November 5, 2004 marked a milestone for Team Ragged Glory. Somewhere in the mix of our passionate pursuit to have fun and give it our best shot, we qualified for the USARA National Championships! So we traveled to French Lick, Indiana with no expectations other than racing against the course and giving it every bit of energy we could muster. We had no idea of what the outcome was going to be.

Indianapolis Adventure Race Recap by Greg Arnold of RG2

The 2004 Indy AR was once again held at Eagle Creek Park and the surrounding area. Eagle Creek is a great place to play outside with your friends and other like-minded adventure seekers. The weather could only be described as awesome. The water level in the reservoir was pretty low but the lack of any significant wind made the paddling conditions ideal.

2004 CCSAR Race Recap

The weather was nearly perfect as the day dawned for the second installment of the Circle City Sprint Adventure Race by GlobalX Racing. Julie, Steve, Bob and I (Doug) had decided on entering this race back at Planet Adventure in April. This was to be the fourth time that this particular foursome would race as Team Ragged Glory and the tenth time that Steve and I would race together.

PA04 Race Recap by Julie Nor

Excitement came on early as I made my trek from south eastern Wisconsin to Indianapolis. You can easily spot adventure racers and the road was full of them—tow systems on the bikes, SUV’s piled high with gear boxes, paddles, PFDs and gallons of water. The drive is becoming more and more familiar as I put more races with TRG under my belt. I had so much anticipation for the adventures that most certainly awaited us and a lot of time to think about it as I drove with the music of choice: Team Ragged Glory’s pump up mix. I have decided that it is the widest variety that I have ever listened to in one sit, but it just shows the character of the team—we have fun and nothing is ever dull! TRG is family and every time we get together it is a happy reunion—this time was no different. We loaded Doug’s Explorer, watched the tires and car sink down as we put more and more gear in and we were off to Cloverdale.

Owen Putnam 50/50 Race Recap

Steve Kincade talked Julie and I into trying a 50k race in the woods. Owen Putnam State Forest near Spencer, Indiana was the venue and a brown-green mud/manure mixture was what everyone was wearing. We ended up finishing in about nine hours after a 5 mile loop and two 13 mile loops. Our ultra running friend Tim East thinks the distance is more like 35 miles. Thanks to Norm for a great race and an even better prayer. – Doug

Rolling Thunder Race Recap

The race was divided into two sections. On Saturday after we picked up our registration and the race directors checked our gear we had to do a trail run. Ron, Jamey and myself made up the team, Chirosport (they are chiropractors). They tethered us together and we had to do approximately 4 miles navigating through old Indian trails (lots of rocks, roots, and leaves covering them). We did really well and by the end of the run had a 4-minute lead on all the other teams. This calmed my nerves a little bit. I was VERY nervous and didn’t sleep too well most of the week. They gave us our maps and went over the race.

Indianapolis Adventure Race Recap

Indy-based adventure race team Shackleton Endurance designed and hosted the fifth Indianapolis Adventure Race (formerly known as the Indy Sprint Adventure Race) at Indy’s Eagle Creek Park on September 13, 2003. Michael, Chris, Tom, Michelle and Dave put together a more challenging long course that kept us very wet. It was fantastic. Although rain had been forecast for most of the week, race day weather was sunny and mild with highs in the low 80s.
